A Small Introduction to… Me!
Paws & More is my small but perfectly formed pet sitting business. I officially launched Paws on the 9th October 2023 and haven’t looked back since.
I think I would happily describe what I do as my absolute DREAM JOB!
I grew up with family dogs, all rescued from Birmingham Dog Home, all making a massive impact on our lives.
Since moving to Scotland 16 years ago, hubby and me have owned goldfish (living to a ripe ole age of 10 – 15 years!) & had three gorgeous rescued dogs; Bradley (Border Collie cross) and Tiffany (lurcher) are now over the rainbow bridge but Julius (Greyhound) is living his best sofa life with us.
As a child, we also had rabbits and gerbils as pets (and yes, we learned the hard way that gerbils are nocturnal and having them in our bedrooms was maybe not the best plan hehe) and the first pet hubby and me had together was an adorable hamster.
I became vegetarian when I was 14 and vegan around 5 years ago…
Animal welfare is at the core of a lot of my decisions; from being vegan, avoiding products made from animals through to my cosmetics and household cleaners being vegan ingredients and cruelty free.
I also try and use my knowledge to spread the word on living a cruelty free life as well as advocating for the abolishment of greyhound racing.
Learning About Characters.
One of my favourite parts of Paws & More is getting to know all of these unique characters that we have living with us in our homes; from the shy and quiet to the cheeky and absolute crackers… Our pets can show as much personality as any human we might know or live with.
The more time I get to spend with some of my clients the more I get to see their development, especially when this virtual stranger (me!) comes into their home and takes up space where their usual human might sit.
It’s a joy to see them get to know me, allow me into their world and very quickly be comfortable enough to allow me to interact and play with them – to the point that Hubby has now started calling me “The Cat Whisperer” with the amount of ‘shy and nervous’ cats I have become friends with over the last 8 months.
Considering I’ve nearly always had dogs in my life, it’s amazing how much I’m learning about them now; from idiosyncrasies of their personalities, through to learning to read their body language – especially when in small packs.
The next thing for me is to start my next course, which looks at Pet Behaviours; should be fascinating!
